Low Temperature Servicing & Air Conditioning

Air Source Heat Pump Servicing:

All our servicing will be completed in accordance with the Manufacturers guidelines to ensure your heat pump is running efficiently.

Otter Heating are Cat 1, F-Gas qualified ensuring that should your refrigerant gas require replacing, we can do this for you. Always ensure any servicing on your heat pump is by a Cat 1, F-Gas qualified Engineer or you are just wasting your money.

An OFTEC qualification does permit servicing, although this qualification does not permit servicing of the refrigerant system. Checkatrade list typical costs and include ‘Refrigerant refill (if required)’ which only F-Gas qualified Engineers can do.

Cost £250 inclusive. Our service includes a filter clean and a full inspection of your whole system, not just the heat pump, to identify any service issues. It also includes an unvented cylinder service.

Heat Pump only, no cylinder. £200

Refrigerant Gas : Should your refrigerant require replacing or topping up a separate charge is made. Topping up a system is low cost but if the refrigerant requires replacing then there is the added cost of disposing of the gas as Refrigerant contains chemicals called fluorinated hydrocarbons.

F-Gas Top up or Refill: Costs Circa £75 to £200 dependant on Gas type and quantity

Underfloor Heating

Underfloor heating cannot be flushed with your radiator circuit. No possibility must exist whereby solids which often build up in the sumps of radiators or pipework that can enter the underfloor pipes and must therefore be independently cleaned. Unlike radiators that are made of steel and corrode, underfloor heating systems are constructed from 100% non corrosive materials.

Underfloor Heating flush and refill: Cost £120

Heating, Unvented Cylinder and Solar Thermal Servicing

Central Heating System Flush and Refill:

A full system drain, flush and refill with inhibitor is best completed every 2 years and can take a whole day to do thoroughly. Your heating filter will also be inspected and cleaned. During this process your system will be visually inspected for any components that are faulty or likely to fail including the cylinder if you have one.

Cost of wet system drain and re-commissioning with inhibitor:

£175 inclusive up to 7 radiators

£20 per radiator thereafter.

Unvented Hot Water Cylinder Servicing:

Otter Heating are G3 Certified. Only G3 certified engineers are qualified to install and service unvented hot water cylinders.

Unvented hot water cylinders are fantastic and feature 3 electrical and 3 mechanical safety interlocks all of which are designed to prevent a single fault. That fault is to prevent the hot water from flashing to steam. A cylinder flashing to steam is the greatest potential threat to life and property within the industry.

Whilst this potential threat is greater when used with the higher operating temperatures of a gas boiler, such a threat still exists when used with low temperature heat pumps. Despite heat pumps being unable to reach the higher operating temperatures a gas boiler can achieve, the cylinder will be fitted with one or two 240 volt immersion heaters. These heaters are designed to make up any shortfall should your heat pump be unable to achieve the desired temperature or the demand for hot water is greater than usual.

Unvented Cylinders and their expansion method must be serviced and checked annually to ensure all the safety interlocks and expansion method operate effectively.

Cost £125. Replacement parts billed separately.

Solar Thermal Panel Servicing.

Otter Heating can service your Solar thermal panel system without the need to get on you roof. This is because we use a special pump and tank that allows us to drain and refill the system at the pump station.

Some manufacturers use various dilutions of Glycol and water, so we can test your Glycol fluid to establish if it needs replacing and avoid unnecessary costs.

Replacing your Solar panel fluid or glycol mix depends very much on the annual temperatures. If you observe a reduction panel temperatures at the controller this may be a sign the fluid is breaking down, or that the panel simply needs cleaning, which most window cleaners can do for you. Care must be taken though when cleaning with delicate vacuum tubes compared to flat panels.

Glycol fluid test Cost: £50

Full Solar Panel drain and refill. Cost £175 plus fluid quantity depending on size and number of panels.

On completion of your service Otter Heating will complete your Benchmark Booklet that came with the product.

Don’t worry if you’ve lost it, we can print you a new card to be kept with your heating paperwork. Alternatively your Service can be recorded on the Benchmark App available here: Homeowners — Benchmark

Air to Air Conditioners

Many Air Conditioning units are mounted at high level and require a means of safe access. If this is the case, we can quote on the most effective way to access your units and provide a risk assessment if necessary.

Otter Heating are IPAF and Pasma Certified allowing us to use a number of techniques to grant high level access.

An additional charge to our standard heat pump service cost will be added for the servicing of the On-wall Room Unit.
